The comparision between Lord Sakyamuni Buddha and King Pasenadi with Lord Gods and King Solomon.

Sự so sánh giữa Đức Phật Thích Ca Mâu Ni và Vua Ba Tư Nặc với Đức Chúa và Vua Sở La Môn (Solomon).

1. Lord Sakyamuni Buddha and King Pasenadi.

- King Pasenadi (Vua Ba Tư Nặc / 波斯匿王 / 파사익왕) is the king of Kosala kingdom (Kiều Tát La / 憍薩羅 / 교살라), where is now India in 7th and 6th century BC. He was in same era with Lord Sakyamuni Buddha and become a great Buddhist king, a disciple of Lord Buddha. King Pasenadi become a follower of Lord Buddha very early in the Buddha's ministry and had remained a loyal supporter ever since. He was a smart and strong warrior and about same age with Lord Buddha. This is one of the stories and lessons he learned from Lord Buddha:

+ Pain Of Love:

When King Pasenadi talking to Lord Buddha one day he received news that his wife, Queen Mallika (Hoàng Hậu Mạt Lợi / 末利皇后 / 말리황후), had given birth to a daughter. The king was not pleased with the news because he wanted a son.

Lord Sakyamuni Buddha, unlike any other religious teacher, he spoke well of women. He said, "Some women are better than men, Your Majesty. There are women who are wise and good, who regard their mothers-in-law as goddesses, and who are pure in word, thought and deed. They may one day give birth to brave sons who would rule a country."

Then, the king remembered what he heard Lord Sakyamuni Buddha said before: "It is the dear ones whom we love that bring sorrow and lamentation, pain, grief and despair." The king asked Queen Mallika whether she agreed with Lord Buddha. She said that if Lord Buddha had said so, it must be true. But the king was not satisfied. "How can a loved one bring sorrow?" wondered the king.

Queen Mallika asked Lord Buddha to explains, and after asking, Queen Mallika asked King Pasenadi, "Sire, what is your opinion, is Princess Vajira, your daughter, dear to you?"

King Pasenadi: "Yes, Mallika, she is very dear to me," the King said.

Queen Mallika: "If some misfortune were to happen to Princess Vajira, would that bring sorrow and lamentation, pain, grief and despair?"

King Pasenadi: "Yes".

Queen Mallika: "Sire, it was because of this that the Blessed One said that dear ones whom we love bring sorrow and lamentation, pain, grief and despair. It is wonderful, it is marvelous! How far the Blessed One (Lord Buddha) sees with understanding."

This story show us that the ones who brings the most sorrow, worrying, pain...etc to us are exactly the ones we love, not our enemies. Because if there are troubles, accidents, misfortunes happened to the one you love or they disappointed you or even betrayed your expectation and trust, it will be 1,000 times more suffering than what the enemies can harm to you. This is the lesson about "Pain Of Love".

2. Lord Jehovah, The God Father and King Solomon.

King Solomon (Vua Sở La Môn / 所羅門王 / 소라문왕) is the son of King David of the ancient Israel in 10th century BC. He was born in 990 BC and died in 931 BC. His name "Solomon" mean the "Peaceful". He also has another name is Jedidiah which mean "Beloved Of Yahweh" or "Friend Of Jehovah God". King Solomon is well known as the King of Wisdom of Israel history. But his story is a precious lesson and a warning to people who's ungrateful and ignore from listening to their Lord and the ones who love them:

+ Always Repect and Listen to People Who Really Love You:

In 970 BC (around 2,900 years ago), King David died, and Solomon succeed his father to be the next king of Davidic Dynasty of Kingdom of Israel. In the Christian Bible, especially the Old Testament, Lord Jehovah, the God Father shown up and asked him what he want. Then, Solomon asked God for the wisdom in order to better rule and guide people, Solomom didn't ask for power, for material wealth, did not ask for a long life and also did not pray for his enemies to die. So God praised him and granted him the wisdom as God told him that there won't be any richer or wiser king than him.

And King Solomon ruled and brought Israel into its most prosperous age. He also built the first Jewish temple in Jerusalem. At that time, he was greatly respected by the kings of the neighboring kingdoms because of his wisdom. Israel at the time was very prosperous and rich under his rule.

However, when he get old, King Solomon he was "crazy in love" for his wives and listened to them to worship the Evil Gods of the religions they're following. King Solomon now forsakes God, no longer holds his faith and does not worship Him as before. The King even built temples on the high mountains opposite the temple of The God Father, which were even more magnificent and higher than the Temple of God.

And the Lord Jehovah was angry with King Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice and had warned him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods and don't betray the Lord. The Lord advised him not to forsake the doctrine and faith that He had given him the wisdom to reign over Israel during its most prosperous years. But he did not keep what the Lord commanded, keep worshipping the Evil Gods of the Gentiles. Therefore the Lord Jeohovah said to Solomon: "Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant. Yet for the sake of David your father I will not do it in your days, but I will tear it out of the hand of your son. However, I will not tear away all the kingdom, but I will give one tribe to your son, for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem that I have chosen."

Finally, The Lord ordered one person to cut the precious cloth of King Solomon into 12 pieces and shared them to all 12 tribes of Judah (Israel). The Kingdom of Israel was divided in half, the South of the Kingdom changed its name into Kingdom of Judah ruled by only 2 tribes are Benjamin and Judah who are descendants of King Solomon. While the North of the Kingdom still kept the original name as Israel and ruled by other 10 tribes of Judah. Now, descendants of King David and King Solomon only own 2 of 12 Judah tribes.

Until 721 BC (around 2,700 years ago), the Assyrian Empire (now is Iraq) invaded the North of the Kingdom Israel, the Assyrians killed, exiled, and enslaved many people from 10 Jewish tribes in the North. Some people have gone into exile and are lost everywhere. This event was called "The Lost Of 10 Tribes Of Judah". The South of the Kingdom, Judah lasted for a while longer but they were subordinated to the Assyrian Empire. Then the Babylonian Empire rose and defeated Assyrian Empire as well as they invaded and destroyed the southern Jewish kingdom of Judah in 586 BC. Even the Jewish temple built under King Solomon in Jerusalem was razed to the ground, the Southern Jews were enslaved, exiled everywhere, even some were brought to the capital of the Babylonian Empire (Now is Iraq and Iran).

This story show us that if you don't respect and don't listen to the people who really love you, if you ignore them and keep doing what you think by your own selfishness, those actions and thinkings may push you into the end, you will be destroying, ruining yourself without even realized it. In Buddhism, we calls it "Ignorance" or "Unenlightenment" (Vô Minh / 無明 / 무명). Ignorance is extremely dangerous, it can make a very wise, intelligent person to be dumb and keep harming themselves that they don't even realize it. King Solomon may receive the love from God but he doesn't use his wisdom to practice and learn more to enlighten himself better, instead, he depended on the God's love and his wisdom so much, not willing to improve the wisdom he got from God. So when his wisdom can no longer resist the temptation and worldly afflictions, he was bewitched by his wives and betrayed God. And it's not a good ending for ungrateful and betrayable people.

After those lessons, you can see the people you love are dearest to you but also can be your biggest weakness, a threat to you if there are some misfortunes happened to them or they betrayed you and your expectations, your hopes. But also, the people who really love you are the ones that really care about you and always want the best things for you. So don't ever betray or make the people you love disappointed, sad and suffering.

Which way would you choose? Choose wisely!
